Winter is Ending... Are You Preparing for Spring? 7 Actions to Take Now
The temperatures are still cold here in North America, but spring will soon be here.
Are you ready?
Check out this list of actions to take now:
1. Birdhouses
Order, make, or prepare your birdhouses. They should be mounted around the 1st of March to give the birds plenty of time to find them.
2. Seeds to Grow
If you're growing seeds for nectar, seeds, or gourds, order your seeds and seed-starting materials now.
Early-blooming flowers should be started soon, depending on what zone you live in. For Zone 5, this means March.
3. Food to Go
Use up that suet before
springtime temperatures melt it.
4. Water
If you want to try something new this summer, start thinking about different ways to move water: fountains, misters, drippers, and ripplers.
5. Wildlife on Order
If you're ordering your friendly solitary bees, suppliers ship the dormant bees only to the end of February.
6. Feeders
Winter is hard on feeders. If some are broken, consider replacing them now.
7. Spring Migration
Soon migratory birds will be winging their way north again. Do you want to put out any special feed -- nectar for hummingbirds, seed on the ground for White-throated Sparrows, fruit for orioles?
